Cotton Candy Ice Cream Recipe

Cotton Candy Ice Cream Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Ice Cream Base:

    • 2 cups heavy cream

    • 1 cup whole milk

    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

    • 1-2 teaspoons cotton candy flavoring (available online or in specialty stores)

    • Pink and blue food coloring (optional, for a fun cotton candy look)

  • Mix-Ins (optional):

    • Crushed cotton candy (add just before freezing to prevent melting)

    • Rainbow sprinkles

    • Mini marshmallows

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ice Cream Base:

    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved.

    • Add the cotton candy flavoring and mix well. Start with 1 teaspoon and adjust to taste (some flavorings are more concentrated than others).

    • If desired, divide the mixture into two bowls and tint one with pink food coloring and the other with blue food coloring for a classic cotton candy look.

  2. Chill the Mixture:

    • Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled. This helps the ice cream churn more smoothly.

  3. Churn the Ice Cream:

    • Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually about 20-25 minutes).

    • If you divided the mixture into two colors, you can layer them in the ice cream maker or swirl them together for a marbled effect.

  4. Add Mix-Ins:

    • In the last 5 minutes of churning, gently fold in crushed cotton candy, sprinkles, or mini marshmallows if desired. Be careful not to overmix, as the cotton candy may dissolve.

  5. Freeze:

    • Transfer the churned ice cream to a freezer-safe container. If you want distinct swirls, alternate layers of pink and blue ice cream.

    • Cover with parchment paper or plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming.

    • Freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.

  6. Serve:

    • Scoop and enjoy! Garnish with extra cotton candy or sprinkles for a festive touch.

Tips:

  • If you can’t find cotton candy flavoring, you can melt actual cotton candy into the milk mixture (about 1 cup of cotton candy) and strain it to remove any undissolved bits.

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute the heavy cream and milk with coconut cream and almond milk.

  • Be creative with mix-ins! Gummy bears, fruity cereal, or even edible glitter can add extra fun.

Enjoy your homemade cotton candy ice cream! 🍦🎠
