Ingredients:
- 400g (14 oz) dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher)
- Zest of 2 large oranges
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground cardamom
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp orange extract or orange liqueur (optional)
- ½ cup chopped roasted almonds (or your preferred nuts)
- ¼ cup dried cranberries or candied orange peel (optional)
- Pinch of sea salt flakes
Instructions:
Prepare Your Setup:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Gather all ingredients for quick assembly.
Melt the Chocolate:
- Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces.
- Use a double boiler or microwave to melt the chocolate:
- Double boiler: Place chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir until smooth.
- Microwave: Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted.
Add the Flavorings:
- Mix the orange zest, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and orange extract (if using) into the melted chocolate. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
Assemble the Bark:
- Pour the spiced chocolate mixture onto the prepared parchment paper. Spread it out evenly with a spatula to about ¼-inch thickness.
- Sprinkle the chopped almonds, dried cranberries, or candied orange peel evenly over the top. Finish with a pinch of sea salt flakes.
Set and Harden:
- Allow the bark to cool at room temperature or place it in the refrigerator for 30–40 minutes until completely hardened.
Break and Serve:
- Once set, break the bark into irregular pieces.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for longer freshness.
Why This Recipe Stands Out:
- Spices: Cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger add warmth and depth, making it ideal for any season.
- Orange: The zest and optional extract create a refreshing contrast to the rich chocolate.
- Texture: The nuts and cranberries provide a delightful crunch and chewiness.
- Customizable: Swap almonds with pistachios, or add chili flakes for a spicy kick!
Enjoy your gourmet chocolate creation! 🍫✨
