Loaded Tex-Mex Hot Dog 🌭✨
Ingredients:
For the hot dogs:
- 4 beef or pork hot dog sausages
- 4 hot dog buns, toasted
For the Tex-Mex toppings:
- ½ cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
- ½ cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained
- ½ cup fresh salsa (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 avocado, diced
- 2 tbsp sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
Instructions:
Cook the hot dogs:
- Grill: Preheat your grill to medium heat. Grill the sausages for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until heated through and slightly charred.
- Stovetop: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sausages, turning occasionally, for about 5 minutes.
Prepare the buns:
- Lightly toast the hot dog buns on the grill or under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until golden.
Assemble the hot dogs:
- Place a cooked hot dog in each toasted bun.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the hot dog while it’s still warm so it melts slightly.
Add the Tex-Mex toppings:
- Spoon black beans over the cheese.
- Add a generous dollop of fresh salsa.
- Top with diced avocado and a drizzle of sour cream or Greek yogurt.
- Garnish with jalapeño slices (if desired) and chopped cilantro.
Serve:
- Squeeze a lime wedge over each hot dog for a fresh, tangy kick. Serve immediately.
Optional Variations:
- Spicy Twist: Add hot sauce or sriracha for an extra kick.
- Loaded Nacho Dog: Add crushed tortilla chips or corn chips for crunch.
- Vegetarian Option: Use plant-based sausages and vegan cheese for a meat-free version.
