Homemade Banana Ice Cream
Ingredients:
- 3 large ripe bananas (about 1½ cups mashed)
- 1 cup (250ml) heavy cream
- 1 cup (250ml) whole milk
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (to prevent browning and enhance flavor)
- Optional: ½ cup chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or caramel sauce for mix-ins
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Bananas
- Peel the ripe bananas and mash them thoroughly with a fork or blend them in a food processor until smooth.
- Add the lemon juice to the mashed bananas and mix well. Set aside.
Step 2: Heat the Cream Mixture
- In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
Step 3: Combine with Bananas
- Remove the cream mixture from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Stir the mashed bananas and vanilla extract into the cream mixture until fully combined.
Step 4: Chill the Mixture
- Cover the banana mixture and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until completely chilled.
Step 5: Churn the Ice Cream
- Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually 20–25 minutes).
- If using mix-ins like chocolate chips or nuts, fold them in during the last few minutes of churning.
Step 6: Freeze and Serve
- Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container. Smooth the top and cover tightly.
- Freeze for 4–6 hours or until firm.
- Scoop and serve, optionally garnished with sliced bananas, caramel drizzle, or a sprinkle of chopped nuts.
Why This Recipe Stands Out:
- Natural Sweetness: The ripe bananas bring natural sweetness and creaminess, reducing the need for added sugar.
- Creamy Texture: The combination of heavy cream and milk creates a luxurious texture.
- Customizable: Add chocolate chips, nuts, or swirls of caramel for a personalized touch.
Enjoy this classic banana ice cream that’s both comforting and utterly delicious! 🍌🍦✨
