Loaded Pulled Pork Poutine 🍟✨
Ingredients:
For the fries:
- 4 large russet potatoes, cut into fries
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the pulled pork (optional):
- 1 lb cooked pulled pork (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
For the gravy:
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef or chicken stock
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
For assembly:
- 1½ cups cheese curds (or mozzarella chunks if unavailable)
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the fries:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) or heat oil in a deep fryer.
- Toss the potato fries with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Spread them on a baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy. Alternatively, deep-fry until golden brown and drain on paper towels.
Heat the pulled pork (if using):
- In a skillet, combine the cooked pulled pork and barbecue sauce. Heat over medium heat until warmed through.
Make the gravy:
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the stock, ensuring no lumps form. Add Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
Assemble the poutine:
- Arrange the hot fries on a serving platter or individual plates.
- Scatter cheese curds over the fries.
- Spoon the hot gravy over the cheese curds, allowing them to melt slightly.
Add the pulled pork:
- Top the poutine with the warm pulled pork.
Garnish and serve:
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired. Serve immediately with a fork and napkins!
Optional Variations:
- Vegetarian Option: Skip the pulled pork and use mushroom or onion gravy. Add sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions as toppings.
- Extra Crunch: Add crispy bacon bits or fried onions.
- Spicy Twist: Drizzle with hot sauce or sprinkle with sliced jalapeños.
