Ingredients:

  • For the dough:

    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
    • ¾ cup warm water
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • For the sauce:

    • 4 medium ripe tomatoes
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the toppings:

    • 200g fresh burrata cheese
    • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
    • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (optional)
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • Freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough:

    • In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, stirring until the dough comes together.
    • Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Make the sauce:

    • Blanch tomatoes in boiling water for 1 minute, then peel and chop.
    • Heat olive oil in a pan. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add tomatoes, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, then blend into a smooth sauce.
  3. Preheat the oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 250°C (480°F) or the highest temperature it can reach. Place a pizza stone or baking tray inside to heat.
  4. Shape the dough:

    • Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle or your desired size. Transfer to a parchment-lined pizza peel or flat surface.
  5. Assemble the pizza:

    • Spread an even layer of tomato sauce over the dough. Tear pieces of burrata and scatter them across the pizza. Sprinkle with dried Italian herbs if desired.
  6. Bake the pizza:

    • Slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or tray. Bake for 7-10 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  7. Finish with basil and olive oil:

    • Remove the pizza from the oven. Top with fresh basil leaves, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper.
  8. Serve:

    • Slice and serve immediately. Enjoy the creamy burrata, fragrant basil, and herbed crust!
