Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the sauce:
- 4 medium ripe tomatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the toppings:
- 200g fresh burrata cheese
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (optional)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions:
Prepare the dough:
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, stirring until the dough comes together.
- Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Make the sauce:
- Blanch tomatoes in boiling water for 1 minute, then peel and chop.
- Heat olive oil in a pan. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add tomatoes, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, then blend into a smooth sauce.
Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 250°C (480°F) or the highest temperature it can reach. Place a pizza stone or baking tray inside to heat.
Shape the dough:
- Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle or your desired size. Transfer to a parchment-lined pizza peel or flat surface.
Assemble the pizza:
- Spread an even layer of tomato sauce over the dough. Tear pieces of burrata and scatter them across the pizza. Sprinkle with dried Italian herbs if desired.
Bake the pizza:
- Slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or tray. Bake for 7-10 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
Finish with basil and olive oil:
- Remove the pizza from the oven. Top with fresh basil leaves, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper.
Serve:
- Slice and serve immediately. Enjoy the creamy burrata, fragrant basil, and herbed crust!
Optional Variations:
- Add cherry tomatoes or roasted garlic for extra texture.
- Use a whole-wheat or gluten-free dough alternative.
- Sprinkle chili flakes for a spicy kick.
